Dear Mountain friends,

it is with great pleasure that we present our programme for the 2011/2012 season.

As well as the traditional courses and the weekly offers you will find something new!
Our offers vary from the Dolomites (did you know that they are the most beautiful mountains in the world?) to the Alps, to the Ortles group to the Liguria coast.
Our jewel in the crown are our local mountains, the Dolomites.

Maybe you did not know that:
the origins of the Dolomites started 280 million years ago. During the Permian period the Tetide sea invaded the territory of the Dolomites, which in those days was formed by ancient metamorphic formations; meanwhile imposing volcanic events with laval and tuff flows gave origin to porphyry.
The marine invasion favoured the deposit of sediments and the temporary emersion of part of the territory. The development of micro-organisms (bacteria, algae, corals) saw the formation of the first rocks, while the corals formed new barriers and a submarine volcanic activity begins.
The limestone and the remains of the organisms accumulated creating stratified formations. During the Cretaceous period the African and Euro-Asian continents collided forming the Dolomites and successively a phase of erosion occured.
The glaciation during the Neozoic era shaped the current valleys.

It has taken nature millions of years to create these magnificent places, a vital space for plants and animals as well as a background to all of our adventures, walks and climbs.

The mountain guides of the Centro d'Alpinismo Catinaccio help you make the right choice at the right time, that is why, even for this year we have drawn up a new programme.
Together with the more traditional climbing, ice and ski courses you will also find weeks devoted to rock climbing, ski mountaineering, high routes and sports climbing. And that is not all; we offer a week of ferrate as well as trips on traditional trails.
If you have in mind a mountain or the trip of your dreams, all you have to do is tell us about it, we will help you plan and achieve your dreams.
One of our strengths is the restricted number of participants for each proposal; therefore do not only look at the prices, but take this detail into consideration. We are of the opinion that with small groups the risk is restricted and by being individually accompanied, the instruction and experience are safer and more intense.

We hope that these words will make you curious and we cannot wait to share this very, very special adventure with you.

Yours sincerely,

Catinaccio Alpine Centre
